Bumps, pumps and jetlag

I’ve just returned from Australia where I attended some of the events at Sydney Design 2010. Some really innovative and challenging stuff which successfully showcased the wealth of design talent on the other side of the planet. Highlights for me included the PechaKucha Night and the Australian International Design Awards at the Powerhouse Museum. The latter showcasing the fabulous speed bump that wasn’t a speed bump (if you’re driving at the right speed) and the amazing Pulse Heart Transportation System. Designed by a student from the University of New South Wales, this is a machine designed to preserve a heart for longer periods of transportation by maintaining a flow of the donor’s blood through it. Check out the website and links at www.sydneydesign.com.au
There’s also a chance to get your design onto the streets of Sydney by entering their Bike Rack as Art design competition. Very topical in London right now, so get on there and show them what you’ve got.
