Putting a little soul in the city

ellie | Wednesday 6th Oct | Comments (1)

sectionWe were invited by Poet in the City to collaborate with them on an exciting advertising competition run by CBS Outdoors. Poet in the City is one of the UK’s leading poetry charities and most dynamic and innovative arts organisations. They run regular events on a diverse range of themes. Poet in the City is for absolutely anyone who’s interested in exploring poetry.

The creative brief was that the entry had to be London-centric, perfect for the orginisation and their audience. Londoners spend a portion of their day standing waiting for a train on a busy London Underground platform. We wanted our design to help fellow Londoners escape from their daily commute, and see London in a more poetic way – literally. Each of us as individuals could benefit from being reminded of this awe-inspiring city continually swirling around us. The words of the poem create a hypnotic architectural landscape, to be swallowed up and lost in, for those idle few minutes between trains.

As it is National Poetry Day tomorrow we thought we would share with you our entry. Fingers crossed we make the shortlist!

Gotta run…

Bobby

We’re all still miserable about the Ironmonger Row Baths being closed for renovation… for 2 years! For the swimmers among us this was a devastating blow to our morning routine. I’ve turned to running to try and keep fit and to be honest it’s been a very slow transition. To motivate myself and raise money for a good cause I’ve signed up for Cancer Research UK ‘Run 10K’. Click here for my sponsorship page if anyone feels charitable the money goes to the Bobby Moore fund.

FarmFestival 2010

farmfestival2010

Unfortunately if this is the first you’ve heard of this beautifully friendly little festival then I’m afraid you’ve missed out! The bargain of the festival season came and went in a blur of luscious green, a shimmer of sunrays and only a hint of the wet stuff last weekend. With some blinding performances, a lovely crowd, and with Sherry members in attendance, this was surely the best FarmFestival yet. Held on an organic farm in Somerset this gathering does more than just provide sumptuous music for your ears and glorious surroundings in which to enjoy it, it’s all for a good cause. All profit made goes to charity with Practical Action being the main beneficiary; a charity that provides renewable, locally sourced sustainable energy in an attempt to lift people out of poverty around the world. With donations also being made to Somerset Air Ambulance and other local good causes, we can’t think of a better way to do your bit.

swimathon

So far, three people at sherry have signed up to take part in the 2010 Swimathon, the world’s biggest fundraising swim. The money that we raise will help Marie Curie Cancer Care. Now we know it’s no marathon, but it is still for charity, so if you feel like sponsoring one or all of us, click a name.
