Judging books by their covers.

Celeste | Monday 19th Sep | Comments (0)

I know you’re not meant too but I’m judging these books by their covers and it seems like the stories within will be textured, intricate and carefully crafted. Considering they’re some of the greatest classics in print that’s probably accurate. The individually designed clothbound covers have been created for Penguin classic collection by Coralie Bickford-Smith and have inspired me to check a few more novels off the list of must reads, starting with Tess of the D’Urbervilles.

What the font?

Aric | Wednesday 7th Sep | Comments (0)

I recently stumbled across Fount, a fantastic little tool to help identify web font’s really easily! Here’s how it works: After adding the Fount bookmark, go to any site and click the bookmarklet. Then simply click on any type to find out its name, size, weight and style.

Firing blanks

Sometimes the most interesting design can be found on the most mundane things – remember blank music tapes? Ever ponder how brilliant the design on the inlay cards was? No, neither did I, until I found Polar Alert’s Top 100 blank audio cassette “j-card” designs.

The designs are clearly trapped in time, harking back to the peak of their use in the 1980′s, but all the better for it don’t you think? Sometimes we try and design so it doesn’t date, but isn’t it great to be taken straight back to a period in time for exactly that reason? Anyway, look for yourself here.

Breaking the colour code

Sherry | Thursday 19th May | Comments (0)

Lexadecimal is a fun little site that lists all the hexadecimal colour codes whose letters form an English word.

“The words are drawn from the British section of Google’s Ngram database, meaning they are words which have appeared in books published in Great Britain. They therefore include proper nouns (Bessel, a German astronomer), foreign words (‘ecoles’), and some words whose meaning is not immediately clear (‘sallal’).”

“When widening our search for hex codes with meaning, we made three substitutions: ’1′ for ‘l’, ’5′ for ‘s’ and ’0′ for ‘o’, meaning that all the colours on Lexadecimal are those whose codes can be formed 6-letter words comprising the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, ‘d’, ‘e’, ‘f’, ‘l’, and ‘s’.”

Keeping up with the Jones

Daniel | Tuesday 2nd Nov | Comments (0)

The legend that is Tom Jones picked up the Music Industry Trusts Award for outstanding contribution to music last night. The Sherry team were invited along as we created the event branding which promoted the awards and the commemorative book, CD and invitation tickets.

We had a splendid night rubbing shoulders with Uncle Bryn AKA Rob Brydon, ex-Hammer Alan Curbishley and the Ed Wood and Beetlejuice director Tim Burton!

And of course we also got to see the Welsh crooner in action, not your average Monday evening I think you’ll agree.
