Despite half the sherry team being fully fledged veterans in the art of cycling to work, we are all planning on making the most of the new cycle hire scheme and the wondrously convenient nearby docking stations.

My one concern however, is that all the new cyclists that are soon to adorn our busy roads are not being encouraged to wear safety helmets. Admittedly a contentious issue, I for one am a massive fan of the noggin protector. Not for how awesome you look the instant you don one, nor for it’s indispensable bulk when you have to carry one around with you. No, the reason for my helmet adoration is because the thought of my bare head hitting a London road or pavement is really not pleasant.

Top tip one: wear a safety helmet. Top tip two: this might seem obvious but some cyclists don’t seem to know – don’t run red lights. Let’s hope everyone rides safely…. Now bring on the bicycles!
