food(scapes) for thought

ellie | Monday 20th Sep | Comments (1)

carlwarnerWe recently discovered the magical world of Carl Warner’s foodscapes after one of those happy accidents in a google image search. As you may well know we at Sherry have a very healthy appreciation of anything culinary, so thought we would share the love. Carl’s website showcases a variety of amazingly imaginative scenes each created entirely by food. Click here to see more.

Last night I stumbled upon a TV show that was worth putting up with the irritating, gurning faces of Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins for… The Great British Bake-Off.

This week the amateur bakers competed in beautiful pastel-coloured pop-up kitchens at Scone Palace near Perth, and tasks included creating towers of meringues, macaroons and choux pastry buns. A true feast for the eyes in every way.

I felt Mary Berry’s pain as she had to sample 24 baked items, as memories of the sugar-overloaded-bake-off we had last year came screaming back, pounding heart and all – oh who am i kidding, she has the best job – the pounding heart must have been the food-envy as I sat eating my low-fat yoghurt. To watch last night’s episode, click here.

Sherrylympics

Athletics, Boxing, Rowing. These are not the true sports of Olympians. Building a tower of marshmallows, blowing a ping pong ball through a cardboard tube and eating a picnic (whilst sporting orange sweat bands), on the other hand… now we’re talking. We had an amazing time in Shoreditch Park yesterday evening displaying our skills in these ‘sports’ and winning medals and trophies to boot. Roll on London 2012, we can’t wait to see if our events have been included in the line up…

A por ellos!

Winning the World Cup sherry sweep wasn’t exactly the highlight of my year so far, but the proud (and oddly enough, Spanish) winner Narcis treating us all to a traditional Spanish lunch with his winnings, most certainly was. Yesterday lunchtime we feasted on tortilla de patatas, ensaladilla rusa, croquetas de pollo, pan con tomate, tabla de embutidos and tabla de quesos all washed down with ice cold sangria. Heaven.

Muchas gracias Narcis (and perhaps just as importantly, thanks to the Spanish football team for winning)!

A little bet of fun

Last Friday Sherry stopped being a design studio for the evening and morphed into the most peculiar casino in town.

As usual, events at Sherry are never quite what they seem. No sitting down for poker – ours was a blind-folded, stick-the-tail-on-the-donkey, Lady GaGa twist. Blackjack became ‘Blackjack Piñata’ which sent everyone scrambling around the floor for chips. The bingo and the fruit machine were also left field takes on the Monte Carlo norm. Nobody won any money (since when do you win any money in a casino anyway!?) but Sharon Stone turned up and we had a fantastic time.
